A Hispanic family is living through days of anguish after a father was detained by ICE during what his wife says was supposed to be a routine interview to obtain his permanent residency in the United States.

The situation was detailed in a message published by the detained man’s wife on GoFundMe, where she describes the shock, fear, and emotional burden she now faces alongside their young daughter.

According to the testimony shared in the campaign, the couple attended the immigration appointment convinced they were about to begin a new chapter in their lives.

The mother stated: “My husband was unexpectedly detained by ICE during what was supposed to be a routine interview for his residency.

“We walked into that appointment full of hope and excitement for the new stage of our lives. Instead, our world changed in an instant.”

She explained that the father is now in ICE custody and, without legal representation, faces the risk of deportation and permanent separation from his family.

Their young daughter, she added, “adores her daddy” and still cannot understand why he is no longer at home.

Emotional and Financial Burden

In her message, the wife highlighted that she is a full-time mother and nursing student, and that the family had relied on a single income.

Now, she said, they have none.

She explained that the legal costs required to fight the case are inaccessible without outside help due to the upfront fees immigration attorneys typically request.

The financial uncertainty adds to the emotional impact the family is facing as they try to maintain stability while coping with the father’s absence.

A Call to the Community

The mother explained that the funds raised will be used to cover attorney fees, motions, appeals, and documents necessary to continue the immigration process.

They would also help pay for phone calls and potential transportation expenses to stay in contact with the detained father.

In her post, she described him as “a hardworking man and the heart of our home,” noting that their daughter “deserves to grow up with her dad by her side.”

She asked anyone who can contribute to make a donation, assuring that each contribution brings them one step closer to reuniting their family.

She added that if someone cannot donate, sharing their story is also a meaningful form of support.

The message ends with gratitude: “Thank you for helping us fight for our family.”
